After my dérailleur cable snapped, I wedged a rock in there to provide a decent gear.

Absolutely perfect day for a ride across Space Mtn & through Sycamore to the coast.

One last scene from my evening stroll Saturday night. Most of the vegetation is brown as can be, but there are a few signs of life here and there.

Just another snapshot from my evening stroll above Sycamore Canyon.

Saturday evening I took a stroll around the entrance of Sycamore Canyon, mostly thinking of my Aunt Max who is in the hospital, and not doing well. Looking around the hillsides, watching as the sun gets lower and lower – I took great comfort in being surrounded by God’s creation. Looking at this earth he has given us, I don’t think there’s any other place that I feel closer to Him.

There’s something I really enjoy about the tiny creatures of this earth, even if their stingers do pack a punch.

10-year-old girl, pretending to be dead while playing with friend, appears on Google Maps street view.

The mountains, they lure me, with their jagged ridge lines and sweeping shadows.

Sweet, hilly, twisty, wonderful singletrack. The late-day light didn’t exactly hurt either.

As if Sebastian Ramirez of AVE-K News Service isn’t nice enough already, calling with news tips and supplying photos from breaking news, he iced the cake today by sending an amazing fruit arrangement to The Star, as a thank-you for working with him. What a guy!

Watching this car get out will resemble a scene from an Austin Powers movie.

I was thrilled to have a rest day today but I’m already itching to get back on the trail.

Donna just loves the Sunday budget meetings!

One last panoramic from the post-work ride. For the second night in a row I took the fully rigid Karate Monkey and I think my joints would have preferred full suspension.

Sunsets from the hills above Newbury Park never seem to get old. I actually needed a windbreaker for the descent into town. Brrr!

Four days in a row of somewhat serious riding and my legs are seriously ready for a few rest days. How I ever rode 7 days a week I’ll never know.

While dropping down the singletrack tonight a saw a bug dragging a tarantula across the trail, towards its nest. When I stopped to get a photo, the bug started coming towards me. It never did go back to dragging the tarantula, which is what I really wanted video of.
