Wednesday we decided to ride our bikes home from work. It’s only a 15-minute drive but it’s highway the whole way. Our bike route was a little less direct, turning a 9-mile drive into a 26-mile bike ride. Our thought was that we would start doing it twice a week.

The ride starts on the Oxnard flats, heads down the Pacific Coast Highway, then cuts through Sycamore Canyon, giving us a mix of asphalt, dirt and creek crossings – not to mention the scenic views of the ocean. The ride was a blast and I had really been looking forward to it, but by time it was all said and done, Donna and I agreed it’s something we can only do once a week. For starters, the creek crossings are deeper than usual, leaving our feet soaked during the rather cool evening hours. Plus there’s the
logistics involved in one-way bike commuting. Anyway, we’ll hopefully keep doing this at least once every week.
