Anniversary weekend: Day 2

Sunday was day two of our three-day weekend and we decided to go to The Huntington Botanical Gardens. One big bummer was that the Asia garden was closed for renovation, but there were plenty of other things to see, including a temporary orchid show. Walking into the orchid display area, the aroma was absolutely incredible.

We didn’t get there until about 11:30am, so it wasn’t long before we decided to sit down for lunch – we were especially hungry after skipping breakfast. $28 later, we had two turkey sandwiches, two bags of chips, two drinks and a rice-crispy treat. Overpriced would be an understatement.

It was a perfect day for walking through the gardens, though it started to get a little warm in the afternoon – it is in Pasadena after all.

We found this guy floating around near the lilly pond. Surprisingly he didn’t seem too camera shy – in fact, he was a bit of a ham.

Once we hit the desert gardens, we started looking for landscaping ideas for our back yard. We’ve been thinking of going with some sort of landscaping that requires very little water, though I don’t think Buddy would appreciate many thorny things in his back yard.

After the gardens we had a nice drive home, via Simi Valley. It’s a route we rarely ever take but the traffic is so much better than it is on HWY 101. Anyway, about 20 minutes before we reached Simi Valley, we started talking about the new iPhone 4s. Of course Donna didn’t have to twist my arm too hard to talk me into getting one. We called ahead to make sure they had some in stock and not long after that, we were walking into the Apple store. Needless to say, it was a pretty awesome day! The gardens were beautiful. The new iPhone is awesome. But neither can even begin to compare to the love I have for the woman of my dreams, and having her by my side was the highlight of the day.
