Today’s hike started out all nice and shady – we were up in Thousand Oaks where it’s typically warmer than it is in the rest of the county, and today was no exception.
I only got up in front of Buddy once… and quickly learned what a bad idea that is because if the way he pulls on his leash, in order to catch up to me.
Needless to say, Buddy was allowed to lead for the rest of the hike.
After a week of cloudy, gloomy skies, it was great to have blue sky for the entire day today.
These are the same trails Donna and I used to mountain bike, when we lived in Newbury Park. The switchbacks and a lot of the trails were steeper than we even remembered them being.
It was pretty neat hiking the same trails that we used to mountain bike. Taking the slower pace like we did today, I noticed a lot of things I never noticed before when I was mountain biking.
At one point on the hike, I ran ahead to get a picture of Donna as she was climbing up to one bill. Her response was that I didn’t need to run, in order to get ahead of her.
Oddly enough, Buddy doesn’t seem to be a big fan of climbing up hills either. He much prefers the flat trails, or the downhill trails.
Donna takes such good care of Buddy when we’re out on the trail. She’s always thinking ahead, packing the water, packing additional leashes, packing snacks, and anything else we might need on the trail.
Ok, she takes good care of me too – though today I didn’t require much more than some Crystal Light.
Remembering the days (before Buddy came along) that we used to leave tread marks, not footprints, on the trails.
What? We’re done already? Actually, this was Donna’s reaction near the end of the hike when I ran up a dirt ramp & jumped, pretending to be on my mtn bike. Mostly, she just didn’t know where the energy was coming from.
We weren’t home but maybe five minutes, and Donna & Buddy were preparing for an afternoon nap.
