I’ve really had my eye on the MacBook Air lately and the more I want one, the less I can justify it. I’ve got a MacBook Pro that rocks and while it isn’t the latest ‘retina display’ version, it’s very sweet and is capable of more than I could ever ask of it.
I’ve also had my eye on the new iPad mini. Do I need it? No.
More and more, my work requires me to be on an iPhone, iPad and laptop – sometimes all at the same time. Given this, the idea of a thin, sleek MacBook Air and iPad mini seems to make working on all three simultaneously less intimidating, and certainly more portable. (Notice how I’m still trying to justify all this?)
Then I decided to look at some numbers, which certainly don’t help my cause.
Bottom line, I’m 52% larger/heavier than the average white male. And when you’re bigger, the world is smaller (in theory). So keeping in mind that I’m 52% bigger I calculated that my MacBook Pro is only 28% thicker and 34% heavier than the MacBook Air. Looking at the two iPads, I calculated that my iPad is only 17% taller and 27% wider than the iPad Mini.
Long story short, me carrying around and using my current equipment is actually less burdensome to me than an average white male using an iPad Mini and MacBook Air.
I’ve got too much time on my hands, don’t I.
