Ok, so maybe there was some spectacular scenery as well, but Sunday’s hike up La Jolla Canyon put my patience to the test. After a stressful week, I was looking forward to hiking with Donna and shooting some pics. We rarely hike this route because dogs aren’t allowed but neither are mountain bikes – which is what we’re typically doing for our outdoor outings when Buddy isn’t coming along.
We hiked the area years ago when there was an actual waterfall and creek to admire along the way. Unfortunately we also discovered that this is where every mosquito in Southern California lives. Given the drought, the mosquitos should be long gone, right? Nope. We both endured about a dozen bites and killed as many mosquitos before they had the chance to suck our blood.
The worst part of the hike came at the half-way point, when I turned on my camera and heard a horrible clicking sound. An error message said to turn the camera off and turn it back on – so I did. The camera’s response? Nada! Nothing! Zip! Zilch!
Climbing up the canyon is great but coming down is absolutely amazing. The trail switches back numerous times, each stretch with a beautiful view of the ocean. I used my cell phone for a few photos but every time I got it out, a new work-related email was awaiting my attention, so I decided to pocket it and not shoot any photos.
Thank goodness for switchbacks:

As of Monday, it appears my camera should be under warranty. That said, I read a number of horrible reviews online about the service center and folks getting their cameras back in even worse shape. Given there’s a reputable shop nearby, I might bite the bullet, take it there and pay the repair cost myself.
