A hospital, bright lights and an angel

It’s somewhat rare that weekends go as planned – at least when we’re staying in town. Take a weekend getaway and we always seem blessed with things going according to plan.

So why break precedent this weekend?

Saturday around noon I started to feel discomfort. It quickly progressed into a pain I’ve never felt before. By 3pm I was in the emergency room. By 4pm I was getting morphine, a CT Scan and learning that I had a kidney stone.

“It’s not in a good spot and I’m concerned it’s still going to cause problems,” the doctor told us.

The doctor was right. By 2am I was awakened by more pain, cold sweats and nausea.

The nausea and cold sweats passed within 30 minutes. The pain did not – leaving me chugging water and sitting on the guest bed across from the guest bathroom. I received a prescription for heavy-duty pain meds, but by time we were heading home, the pharmacies were closed.
