We had a great three-day weekend to celebrate Donna’s birthday this year. Well, kind of.
Saturday was more of a get-stuff-done day. After walking Buddy I worked on cleaning out the garage and taking a full load of stuff to the county dump. Meanwhile, Donna cleaned the house. We had planned to get the Christmas tree up and decorated but we didn’t make it any further than just getting the tree inside.
Then, it was time for a birthday treat at Red Lobster. Fried shrimp is a nostalgic celebratory food for Donna, whose father always treated everyone to the oh-so-popular dish on special occasions. I, on the other hand, dug into a plate of lobster, crab legs and shrimp. I know it seems funny to go to a chain seafood restaurant when you live in a coastal community, but most of the fresh seafood around here is squid and fish.
The celebration of course ran into Sunday and Monday.
Sunday I took Buddy for his morning walk and gave ‘mom’ the morning off. Then it was off to the trails for some mountain biking. After getting cleaned up from the ride, the birthday girl was treated to a shopping spree at Sur La Table and Chico’s. Giving her a gift card and setting her loose in Sur La Table was like giving $20 to a kid in a candy shop.
Of course you really work up an appetite shopping, so then we headed to Yolanda’s for one of Donna’s favorite mexican dishes – grilled chicken with vegetables over top of rice. Sounds like Chinese food, right? Believe me, it’s sooo much better!
Sunday we got out for a morning hike, had brunch at Old New York Deli, caught a matinee of Spotlight, ran a few errands then spent a quiet evening at home.
No Birthday celebration could possibly be enough for the woman I love so much, but I did my best to make it a special occasion!
