TWITTER CARDS

Every journalist wants their content to stand out on social media. How do you do that? Utilize eye-catching visuals. That’s not to say every story needs great images. Illustrations and data visualization can also be used.

Recognizing the importance of visuals, we switched from Twitter’s ‘Summary Card’ to their ‘Summary Card With Large Image.’ It’s a blessing and a curse. When an aesthetically-challenged image is used in a prominent position, it looks awful on Twitter. But when an engaging visual is used, it really stands out.

To ensure our newsroom was tagging images appropriately within our CMS, I presented the following slides to demonstrate the importance of the process.
