TRYING SOMETHING NEW

With our new CMS came a slew of new restrictions. For example, if you embed HTML in an article, it gets stripped when rendering in our app.

I’ve always said, “If it doesn’t work on mobile, it doesn’t work.”

So what can we add to a story that won’t get stripped? Photos, videos, social media posts and PDFs.

We had some data with two different stories and since we can’t embed interactives via HTML, I decided to somehow use video.

In a few hours, I had discovered and learned how to use Keynote’s ‘Magic Move’ transition to create animated effects. I have yet to find a similar transition in Power Point, so kudos to Apple for this feature.

The icing on the cake is that when exporting a Keynote presentation, you have the option to export as a MP4 — leaving you with a video file that the CMS accepts.

This is my first crack at it, and I’m sure I’ll find even better ways to utilize it, but here’s what I came up with on my first two attempts.
