Donna and I started the day by driving to the beach and taking a one-hour walk along the shoreline.

The day got a little more interesting when we got back to the car and discovered we had a dead battery. Two hours later we had been to three auto shops, after receiving a jump from a tow truck.
After getting back to the house and having breakfast, it was time to head out for the day. Our first stop was the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, about 90 minutes south of Kill Devil Hills.

Going to and from Cape Hatteras, we had the joy of sitting in road construction. Given the amount of driving that we’ve done, I have to admit we’ve been blessed thus far in terms of avoiding bad traffic.

After Cape Hatteras, we checked out the Bodie Island Lighthouse on our way back to town.

Last but not least for the day was Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse, where we discovered the Explorer would not go into ‘park’ — the third vehicle mishap of the day.
