OUR TOUGH GUY

We unwittingly pushed our tough guy a little too hard today. He’s been feeling better lately so we’ve been trying to get him out for little adventures — most commonly at Claytor Lake State Park, where the trails are lengthy but not terribly demanding.

He spent the bulk of the time prancing along, stopping to sniff about every ten feet. On occasion he was even pulling, seemingly wanting to go faster.

But by the time we got home, we noticed he could barely make it up the stairs. He failed at an attempt to jump onto the sofa, and when I picked him up to put him on the sofa, he yelped.

I’ve never seen a state park do this, but the leaves were cleared from the miles of trails, presumably with a leaf blower.

I love the constant nature of pine trees. Unlike their leafy relatives, they provide a touch of green to an otherwise dreary landscape.
