YELLOWSTONE AND TETON

It was a long day of travel, getting from Charlotte to Jackson Hole. Thanks to the time change, we arrived early in the afternoon, which gave us time to stock up at a grocery store before hitting the road to the Canyon Lodge in Yellowstone National Park. The three-hour drive offered a number of scenic views but we cruised by most of it, tired from the day of travel.

We packed quite a bit into our first full day in Yellowstone, including Artists Paintpots, Old Faithful, Midway Geyser Basin and Gibbon Falls. While mom, dad & Tiff took a Historic Yellow Bus tour, Donna and I meandered around Old Faithful and the surrounding geysers.

Monday we opted to stay a little closer to the lodge and spent the day at the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, Upper & Lower Falls, Yellowstone Lake (where we stopped for a picnic lunch), LeHardy’s Rapids and Lake Butte Overlook.

We spent a lot of time in the car on Tuesday, venturing out to Lamar Valley, Slough Creek, Tower Falls (where we saw a black bear and two cubs), Mammoth Hot Springs and Norris Geyser Basin.

By the time Wednesday rolled around, we had seen pretty much everything we had planned to see. Donna and I went for a morning hike around around the rim of the canyon, Tiff went out to Mammoth Hot Springs, and mom & dad relaxed at the lodge. By mid-day we were all back together for a return trip to Old Faithful and the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone.

Thursday morning we packed up and left Yellowstone. We spent the day exploring the Tetons, including Colter Bay Village, Jackson Lake, Signal Mountain Lodge, Signal Mountain Overlook, Leigh Lake, Jenny Lake, and the Antelope Flats area.

By the end of the week, dad wasn’t feeling well and opted to stay at the hotel Friday morning. I wasn’t feeling so hot either, but not knowing it was bronchitis, I opted to get out for a morning of exploration. We headed to Teton Village where we took a tram to the top of the mountain. Afterwards, we returned to Jackson for lunch, picked up dad, and returned to the Jenny Lake area where we wrapped up our day.
