A GREAT MORNING ON THE TRAILS: PART I

Sunday mornings can be tough, given that we’re up so late on Saturday nights due to Donna’s work schedule. This morning, Donna was not only tired but she had some serious sinus issues going on. Nevertheless, after a gallon or so of coffee, she was itching to hit the trail.

Cloudy skies prevailed all morning, but it was a pretty kind of cloudy – not just that solid layer of gray. The sun was able to peek through now and then, making the landscape all the more spectacular. Below is the view from our first climb of the Westlake loop. Home is behind us and we’re looking at the rolling hills we’ll ride for the next 15 minutes before things once again start getting steep.

It might look like dirt, but on the way down it feels like butter. This one section of singletrack is what all trails will look like in heaven. Of course in heaven I won’t have to approach corners cautiously for fear of running into a horse or hiker around one of the many blind corners.

Donna really impressed me left and right today. She cleared one downhill section that she has never, ever ridden before. She also rocked all the switchbacks on the way up and I, once again, failed to find a vantage point that illustrates the steepness of the pitch in this section of the trail.
