THE ROLLER-COASTER CONTINUES

Monday was going to be a complete day of relaxation. Then the morning alarm went off and I realized we had some papers to fill out for the escrow company. After filling those out and running to the post office, I returned home to a ringing phone and learned that our home appraised for $5,000 less than the price we agreed to, meaning we would have to come up with that extra $5,000 at closing, unless the buyer agreed to drop the price.

This seemed like an ideal time to gear up for a ride and hit the road for a few hours. Two hours of pavement and an hour of dirt roads, not to mention some beautiful shoreline scenery sounded very appealing.

The upside of the weather was that the sky was clearing and there wasn’t anything but blue sky. The downside was that the skies were clearing because of some significant winds, and of course we spent the bulk of our ride heading straight into them.

The ride was terrific and the day just kept getting better from there. After the ride we went to the furniture store where we found our new sofa, picked out the upholstery for the sofa and the pillows, and right about the time we started wondering if we could really afford it, we got the call from the realtor that the buyer had agreed to drop the price of the home to match the appraisal! Woohoo!

After about two hours of riding, with only an hour left to go, we ran into a problem – Sycamore Canyon, the route we planned to take home, was closed. They were paving the road through the campground and weren’t letting anyone through. We explained that there was no way we could make it back the way we came (too dangerous and too far in the reverse direction) and they graciously let us pass through.
