We had talked about spending our 10th wedding anniversary in Hawaii. I figure that’s the least Donna deserves for putting up with me that long. But life gets in the way of some of those bigger plans – stress, work, health. So to celebrate we headed north towards Big Sur. As long as we’re together, we’re happy, and a weekend in Big Sur is a great treat.
It was 10 a.m. before we were hitting the road Thursday morning, after sleeping in, walking Buddy and then dropping him off at The Barkley. That put us in Pismo Beach right around the lunch hour and we couldn’t pass up an opportunity to chow down on clam chowder and chilled shrimp & crab at one of our favorite spots – The Splash Cafe.

Buddy was NOT happy to see the suitcase come out.
After lunch in Pismo Beach, we headed to Montaña de Oro State Park.
No idea what this thing was (above) but there were a number of them washed up on the beach.
We wrapped up our day at The Morgan in San Simeon.
I knew it would be hard to top Thursday, but Big Sur was beckoning and up to the challenge. From San Simeon we headed north to check out the seals then hit the road into Big Sur, where we made a number of stops throughout the day. We spent so long taking in the sights, we didn’t get back into town until evening and we were so tired we didn’t even clean up and went straight to dinner all stinky – we sat outside, don’t worry.
