RIDING THE BLUE RIDGE

Cycling the Blue Ridge Parkway had never seemed all that appealing. Motorists are usually too busy taking in the sights to really pay close attention to the road. But a few days earlier the parkway had been closed and we thought riding a the road, sans traffic, would be a really neat experience.

According to the NPS website, the gates were still closed, but when we arrived we saw the gates were wide open and traffic was moving freely through the area. Somewhat reluctantly, we decided to go for a ride.

Traffic was light, motorists were respectful and it turned out to be a great ride and the perfect way to bring in the new year.
