STAYCATION DAY 1: NEW RIVER TRAIL

Having wrapped up the spring semester, Donna and I were ready for some time off. We opted to take off the Thursday and Friday before the Memorial Day weekend.

It’s been a while since we’ve been able to get out for a bike ride — more than seven months. Millie needs two good hikes every weekend and leaving her at home by herself while we get out for a ride really isn’t an option. We decided to board her for one night, while we headed south to the New River Trail on Thursday, stayed overnight in Wytheville, then spent Friday morning at Grayson Highlands State Park before returning home that afternoon.

We quickly discovered that when you haven’t been riding, a 20-mile ride really hurts. My legs were fine, but the bike seat was less than comfortable, to say the least.
